New English Cocker Spaniel, any advice or ideas welcome for training and general health?

I bought a 2 month old english cocker spaniel Saturday, we registered at the vet and I’m just wondering if anyone has any ideas for training and general health of these playful dogs.
I’ve noticed he likes to play all the time, he sleeps 17 hours a day and whines during the night.
